Education
I am currently a student at the University of Mary studying for my Bachelor's degree in psychology. I had the opportunity in the fall of 2018 to study abroad in Rome, Italy with 24 of my fellow classmates. My study abroad experience allowed me to grow in numerous ways as a woman of God, a friend, a leader, a student, and just a member of my community.
Extracurricular
Throughout my college career, I have been involved in a behavioral science student organization called PACS (Psychology, Addiction counseling, Criminal justice, Social work) and am currently sitting as president. I am involved in UMary's music department as a member of its Concert Choir. I participate in intramural volleyball on campus where I have the opportunity to get to know other students and create more friendships.
Volunteer Work
During my time at UMary, I have been able to give my time in various different ways and to different groups of people. I have volunteered at Ministry on the Margins, the Ronald McDonald House, participated in a University of Mary UMin event called Friends of the Poor. Each fall I participate in the University of Mary's annual Day of Service as well participate each spring in my high school's (Belgrade High School) annual Day of Caring. For the past two Spring semesters, PACS student organization has held an event called The Clothesline Project, myself and fellow students and faculty have volunteered time for its success.
Mentorships
I was privileged to participate in a mentorship program through Emerging Leaders Academy (ELA) in the spring of 2019. My professional mentor within the city of Bismarck was Dr. Marie Schaaf Gallagher and my faculty mentor at UMary was Dr. Manisha Sawhney. Both mentorships taught me a great deal about the professional world as well as helped me to discover more about myself.
Servant Leadership
Through my study abroad experience, I am better able to serve those around me by understanding my personal strengths and weaknesses and knowing what I am able to contribute. Rome, Italy was a very humbling experience and pushed me to grow and strive to be my best self while always being of service to others. I have a new perspective of others' lives and I aim to help those around me gain a new perspective as I have. My change in perspective has increased my patience with others and allows me to understand better their situation, this then helps me serve to their specific needs.
Team Building
To have an effective and well-connected team, I think it is necessary to know each team member. Every person has strengths and weaknesses and if each person's strengths are utilized, then the team can accomplish so much more in a smoother fashion. Knowing team members on a personal level helps to develop trust and confidence throughout the team.
Respect, patience, and honesty I also think are essential aspects of a good team. Members must have respect for one another, patience when things get rocky, and honesty so that the team has a better understanding of itself and its goals.
Communication is huge for a team because that is what allows a team to function at its best. Open and honest communication paves the way for smooth teammate interaction and better conflict resolution.
Organization is an essential aspect of a well-functioning team. An organized team can accomplish more together and are better equipped to handle what is thrown at them and complete tasks that need to be.
